Health Insurance Challenge for America. Can You Afford Coverage?

Health insurance is a formal agreement to provide and/or pay for medical care. The health insurance policy describes what medical services are “covered” by the insurance company. As a testament to the importance of health insurance in many colleges and universities health insurance is mandatory for all full-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in 12 or more credits.

In recent years many small business owners have passed the cost of health care insurance on to their employees. When the employees can not afford the health insurance coverage under present government policy they are just out of luck.

Some colleges have contracted with Aetna Student Health and similar providers to provide a health insurance option. This type of group coverage can be obtained at lower cost. For many families health insurance is often not affordable or unavailable and health care costs claim a growing share of household budgets. Rising numbers of people are under insured or not insured at all as they just can not afford the insurance premiums.

As medical needs and bills mount many Americans, even those with chronic illnesses, skimp on prescription drugs and needed care, and experience poorly coordinated health care. Hard working citizens lack confidence that they will be able to afford high quality health care in the future.

Shopping for health care insurance is not always easy. Medical terms can be confusing. Before speaking with an insurance agent you should make sure you understand his or her language. Make sure you read an overview of health insurance companies to get a better idea of each provider’s identity. Medicare supplement insurance, commonly called Medigap or Medsup insurance, can help make up the difference between Medicare coverage and billed medical costs.

Medical expenses can be very costly, especially for those students entering the United States on a temporary basis. In addition, many health care providers at colleges and universities can deny treatment if a student does not provide appropriate records of international student insurance coverage.

Medicaid does not pay money to you; instead, it sends payments directly to your health care providers. You may also be asked to pay a small part of the cost (co-payment) for some medical services.

American women want children and are willing to pay for it, but the technology is not sufficiently refined to prevent all multiple gestation. Comparing pre-term birth and infant mortality rates in the US with any other country is truly apples and oranges, and of course, nothing skews longevity statistics like infant death. Some Americans, some reports argue, have too much health insurance. Typical plans cover things that they shouldn’t, creating the problem of over use and consumption, leading to higher costs for the insurance providers.

Employers should provide their employees with written notice of their right to continuation coverage both at the beginning of employment and as the employee is going out the door, generally a separate letter dealing with health insurance benefits is best. The notice must instruct the departing employee how to inform the health insurance carrier of the employee’s desire to continue coverage.

Employers are jettisoning health insurance because costs are out of control. Since 2001, premiums for family coverage have increased 78 percent, while wages have gone up 19 percent and inflation is up 17 percent.

Obama would require employers to either provide benefits or contribute to a fund that would provide coverage. McCain makes no such rules for employers or individuals. The issue of health insurance coverage and bringing the costs of medical care and services under control should be a prime presidential campaign issue.

The challenge facing American with health care and health care insurance is that the costs have gone beyond the reach of many millions of Americans. The candidate who can meet the challenge of creating a workable health care plan in America should have a major edge in reaching the Whitehouse.

Health Insurance Coverage – Why Opt For This?

As most developed countries continue to move from a manufacturing-based economy to a service economy, and employee working patterns continue to evolve, health insurance coverage has become less stable. The service sector offers less access to health insurance than its manufacturing counterparts. Further, an increasing reliance on part-time and contract workers who are not eligible for coverage means fewer workers have access to employer-sponsored health insurance.

With health insurance premiums on the rise, many small employers cannot afford to offer health benefits to their employees. Companies that do offer health insurance, often require employees to contribute a larger share toward their coverage. As a result, an increasing number of people have opted not to take advantage of job-based health insurance because they cannot afford it.

How does being uninsured harm individuals and families?

*Lack of health insurance coverage compromises the health of the uninsured because they receive less preventive care, are diagnosed at more advanced disease stages, and once diagnosed, tend to receive less therapeutic care and have higher mortality rates than insured individuals.
*Regardless of age, race, ethnicity, income or health status, uninsured children were much less likely to have received a well-child checkup within the past year. Research shows that almost 50 percent of children without health insurance coverage did not receive a checkup in 2003, almost twice the rate (26 percent) for children with health insurance coverage.
*People without health insurance coverage end paying “up front” — before services will be rendered. When they are unable to pay the full medical bill in cash at the time of service, they can be turned away except in life-threatening circumstances.
*About 20 percent of the uninsured (vs. 3 percent of those with coverage) say their usual source of care is the emergency room.
*Studies estimate that the number of excess deaths among uninsured adults aged 25-64 is in the range of 18,000 a year. This mortality figure is more than the number of deaths from diabetes (17,500) within the same age group (10).
*According to one another study, over a third of people without health insurance coverage have problems paying medical bills. The unpaid bills were substantial enough that many had been turned over to collection agencies – and nearly a quarter of the uninsured adults said they had changed their way of life significantly to pay medical bills.
What additional costs are created by people without health insurance coverage?
*Its estimated that America spends nearly 0 billion per year to provide uninsured residents with health services, often for preventable diseases or diseases that physicians could treat more efficiently with earlier diagnosis.
*Hospitals provide about billion worth of uncompensated care a year.
*Another billion is paid by private and public payers for health services for the uninsured and billion is paid out-of-pocket by those who lack health insurance coverage.
*People without health insurance coverage are 30 to 50 percent more likely to be hospitalized for an avoidable condition, with the average cost of an avoidable hospital stayed estimated to be about ,300.
*The increasing reliance of the uninsured on the emergency department has serious economic implications, since the cost of treating patients is higher in the emergency department than in other outpatient clinics and medical practices.

Getting Everyone Health Insurance Coverage Will Save A lot of Money.
The impacts of living without health insurance coverage are severe. Many uninsured individuals postpone needed medical care which results in increased mortality and billions of dollars lost in productivity and increased expenses to the health care system.

There also exists a significant sense of vulnerability to the potential loss of health insurance which is shared by tens of millions of other people who have managed to retain health insurance coverage.

Every person should have health insurance coverage, participation should be mandatory, and everyone should have basic benefits because like we have seen above it’s benefits are awesome.

Your Auto Insurance Coverage Explained

If you drive, you need auto insurance. But many drivers still cruise around town uninsured. But why? It’s because they don’t think they’ll end up in an auto accident. However, everyday hundreds of drivers find themselves in auto accidents, and I’m sure it’s safe to say that they weren’t expecting it.

Auto insurance is security. It’s a way to protect your car, yourself, and other drivers while on the road. Auto insurance policy holders pay premiums and in return, the auto insurance company subsidizes expenses involved in an auto accident. It’s a way to protect drivers against costly car repair, hospital, and even legal bills as a result of an auto accident.

But there isn’t just one type of auto insurance available. Drivers have a few options they can choose from when selecting an auto insurance policy. Drivers can choose the level of coverage and liability of their policy. However, more liability and coverage means higher premiums. So how do you decide what policy to get?

What to Select:

When shopping for auto insurance, you first need to establish what type of coverage the state requires you to have and what additional coverage you want. Different states have different auto insurance coverage laws, so be sure to check with the DMV or your auto insurance company about specific state requires. But, in addition to state required levels of coverage, you can always add additional coverage to your policy. Standard coverage options include medical coverage, collision, and comprehensive coverage. Liability coverage options include injury and property damage.

If you want to protect yourself from paying high medical fees for someone you injured in a car accident, include injury liability to your policy. With most policies, you can even state the level of liability coverage, dictating how much your insurance company will cover and what your premiums will be.

What Not to Select:

Some people see auto insurance as a burden. They think they’re perfect drivers and will never get in an auto accident. And if they do, it won’t be their fault and the driver at fault will pay for any necessary repairs and medical expenses. So, they opt for the most inexpensive or basic coverage possible.

If you’re one of these “perfect drivers” who thinks this way, you’re not looking at the entire picture. What if you’re rear ended and injured by an uninsured driver who flees the scene and is never found? Now you’re stuck with medical and car repair expenses. If you had a policy that covered you in such an event, you wouldn’t be stuck with the entire bulk of the bills. Basic auto insurance only provides basic coverage; and the term “basic coverage” means different things to different insurance companies. If you’re shopping for auto insurance, don’t just ask for the most inexpensive and basic policy. Think about what you need to keep yourself safe on the road in any situation. You never know what will happen when you’re on the road.

Auto insurance is a basic necessity of life. If you want to keep yourself safe while on the road, you need to have proper auto insurance and a policy with the coverage and liability you need to protect yourself and your passengers in any situation.

CURE Auto Insurance Ad that crosses the line re: language. Granted it is surprising and a little humorous but it lowers the line of where vulgarity is acceptable. This one aired during halftime of Rutgers vs USF, October 18, 2007. It was NOT the first time it has been aired. The full ad is a series of 3 mini-ads played one after the other. The first two were tame, then this was the last.

Disability Insurance 11 – Disability Insurance for Business Overhead Coverage

As we mentioned in the other articles, the main purpose of disability insurance is to to replace an individual’s income should they be unable to work as a result of either an accident or a sickness. In fact, People tend not to spend a lot of time thinking about the financial devastation that could result from a disabling injury or sickness therefore if disability strikes, the balance between personal earnings and expenses suddenly is upset, and the threat of financial disaster can quickly become a reality.
Since a business owner is responsible for a variety of fixed expenses. Some examples include rent, salaries of employees and utilities. If the business owner suffers a disability, these expenses continue, but the income-earning capacity of the business may be significantly reduced. there fore business overhead disability insurance is important in maintaining the business in case of disability.

This coverage is also available to self-employed professionals and business owners who:

i) the benefit period and
ii) monthly benefit have different implications for this type of policy.

Dental Insurance Coverage – What Do You Really Need?

Whilst it is very important to have a dental insurance coverage plan, it’s wise to be careful about what you decide to choose to buy.

Of the many dental insurance companies out there, there really are some great deals that you can take advantage of, but you need to check exactly what you are getting or you might have a nasty shock. There is nothing worse in any insurance, than thinking that you have cover and then finding out that you missed something in all that small print.

In fact, one major benefit of some insurance companies is that the dental insurance coverage they provide is very carefully spelt out in simple language so that there is no room for mistake. that suits the insurer, because they get a lot less hassle and a good reputation.

And in those cases, they are able to build a better business, because word of mouth from satisfied clients means that the dental insurance coverage they offer, without too many complaints, provided what was expected.

Of course there are dental insurance coverage plans that have all the bells and whistles, including all the costs from your dentist completely. And that dentist could be the very one you chose too.

In other cases, you might have to use a dentist that the company choose, which might even mean quite a journey and even a dentist that you don’t really like or, worse, trust with your dental work. Maybe, for some people a small price to pay a little more to get peace of mind.

It’s also possible that the dental insurance coverage provided by ‘list’ dentists that some companies require, pays for all their services fully, but only pays for selected services from those dentists you choose, so it’s vital to be very clear about what you get for what you pay.

There’s another thing about the level of cover you get.

Depending on the company and the dental insurance coverage, there are different ways for the dentist to receive payment. It could be that the work is done, the dentist bills the dental insurance company and gets paid direct. In some other arrangements, you could get billed first and then claim it back, which can seriously affect your cash flow for a while.

And finally, the dental insurance coverage might be in between the two in terms of the type of coverage that you get. The premiums may well be reduced for those that use the dentists on the list provided by the insurance company.

So, all in all it’s really important to check out the small print (or find a dental insurance company that only has easy to understand terms), so that you understand exactly what you are getting in the dental insurance coverage you are buying.

What Is Included With Dental Insurance Coverage?

Dental insurance plans can help individuals and families save a lot of money with respect to dental care and treatment. There are different types of such plans and some plans are more expensive than others. But the difference in the diverse plans offered by different insurance providers mostly lies in the coverage of dental procedures what is reimbursed and what is not. It is therefore important to consider what is covered in a plan very carefully before signing up for one.

Full coverage normally refers to all dental procedures that can be expected to be carried out with the goal of keeping teeth healthy and restoring them. However, there exist some misunderstanding as to full coverage, whereby people often believe that it implies that all dental procedures are covered by the dental insurance plan. If this was the case, then one would have to look at price alone in order to determine which one of the plans is the best one to adopt. Needless to say, it would be the cheapest one.

Therefore when examining the different plans, it is vital to understand what each one of them covers and what they do not cover. Some plans may cover basic dental procedures, such as checkups and cleanings, but not more complex ones, such as implants or dentures. Some will cover major dental procedures, and not the basic ones. These types of coverages are not to the benefit of the clients. People most often than not go to the dentist for basic dental care and treatments which, if catered to carefully and regularly, will diminish the risk of having recourse to major dental procedures. On the other hand, it is also important to have coverage for major, expensive dental procedures, as they may still be necessary, though on a less frequent basis.

Minor treatments, along with basic dental care, are usually included in full coverage dental plans. They include tooth extraction, fillings, treatment of roots, gums, cavities, among others. They are not considered as overly costly procedures, unlike major dental procedures. However, they usually involve co-payments and deductibles on the part of the client.

Major dental procedures such as prosthodontics (dentures, implants, bridges) are really very expensive, and therefore dental plans which cover these are quite worthwhile. Insurance providers know that these types of procedures arise less frequently, and are the result of not getting appropriate basic dental care. These procedures may be more subject to exclusions such as waiting periods. It may happen that people sign up for dental insurance plans which offer full coverage as to major dental treatments; being fully aware that they will be going through them.

Orthodontics (straightening of teeth, treatment including braces, retainers) usually forms part of cosmetic dental procedures, which does not find a great place, when it finds one, in dental plans. Indeed, these are barely, if not at all covered with dental insurance plans. The argument for this fact is that dental insurance plans, like medical insurance plans, work towards the sole aim of keeping people healthy or restoring their health. Cosmetic surgery, on the other hand, aims at improving appearance of people, and is therefore not covered by most dental insurance plans.

Before signing up for a dental insurance plan, people should therefore examine very carefully what the full coverage refers to. They should know exactly what their needs are and choose their dental plan accordingly. They should avoid making assumptions as to what is covered, so that they will not end up paying for dental procedures that they believed to be included in the coverage of their dental insurance plan.

I am 21 years old and and married. I drive a 1 year old volkswagen rabbit, have had one speeding ticket and 1 major accident where I totaled my car(I was deemed at fault although it was BS, she hit me). I am renewing my policy and thought I had way to much coverage but I was reading this and apparently I need even more. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/new-cars/buying-advice/a-guide-to-car-insurance-405/ I do not own a house, the largest asset is our cars which are not that much.

Currently I have:
100,000/300,000 bodily injury
50,000 property damage
100,000/300,000 stacked uninsured motorist
500 deductible for comprehensive/collision
30 rental reimbursement- that is the cheapest they have and since I am under 25 I want to keep that on
I was told the accident was my fault because I was making a left hand turn so it automatically becomes my fault. I should have have plenty of time to make the turn but the woman who hit me came out from behind another car and was hauling, she totaled my car in a side impact when the speed limit was 35. I had forgotten my cell phone that day so she was the one who called the police and I could not call anyone for advice on what I was supposed to do. It was my first accident and when the cop showed up I was hysterical crying just because I had been so shaken up. I never got to tell my side of the story because. She actually had told the officer she knew I was not injured even though I had banged up my knee and arm.

I did not go to traffic school for the speeding ticket because I was not going fast enough to get any points on my license. I was going 38 in a 25 woo hoo!
