Your state insolvency fund would make good on the payments, if the policy wasn't flat out transferred to another carrier. Not sold, transferred by the state insurance commissioner.

You'll keep getting paid.

This is a real problem. Yes, you can lose your income under that scenario. It all depends how your insurance company is "divided" if it should fail. You will just have to wait and see. The prospect of losing your income is frightening. If I were you, I would talk to a lawyer about filing for social security disability. If you can't work, perhaps you can line up a partial-replacement for those benefits. I understand it can take a year or more to be approved for SSI. Just a thought! All the best.

Insurance is very individual because it's based on your drivers record, sex, age, and a number of other variables such as location, credit rating and type of vehicle being insured.

Hey, I went to college with a girl from Melrose!!

In Massachusetts, the rates are set by the state. The only way you can get a discount off the state set rates, is if you belong to a qualified group, like a credit union or AAA.

So, here's a GREAT agency in MA, they'll do it all over the phone: www.abodeely.com . . . Or if you belong to a credit union, call them.

Mass. auto insurance is regulated by the state so you really dont have the option to "shop around." The prices will not be competative.

Impossible to answer - you left out which STATE Bob lives in.

There are a variety of answers, depending on each state's law. Example: Ruth might have to collect under her own auto policy for medical payments, or maybe Bob's, or maybe her parent's if she's a minor and lives with them, or maybe the guy who hit her. See? There is no "general" term for "most" policies, as each will be state specific.

An inspection by a mechanic before buying would have save you that mess.

The coolant in the radiator would have been checked and so would have the transmission fluid.

Or, you could have come here and we could have told you if the car in question is a piece of crap.

Being a used vehicle, you have to assume you are buying "as is".

Oh well.
